Based on the documents we read in class, how many Persians do you think were at the Battle of Thermopylae? Remember to use specific evidence from at least 2 documents. Also, what others types of evidence would help you answer this question. Your assignments for your Unit 1 Binder Check are due on your Unit 1 Quiz date, Friday, January 13th.
Here is a printable version of your assignment checklist. Well guys, we're kicking off our year with two work from home days. In addition to your unit work (timeline, vocabulary, binder check, etc.) make sure you have your Morris Article Questions and Chalk Talk Prep Sheet for Wednesday.
For tomorrow, review the Mesopotamia PowerPoint and the Harrapan (Indus River Valley Civilization) PowerPoint and be prepared for a comparison chart of River Valley Civlizations on Wednesday. Finally, Tonight's, homework is your first analysis of a primary source document for this class– an excerpt from the judgments of Hammurabi, a Babylonian king from the 18th century BCE .After carefully reading through the text provided for you in class (or the digital copy on the Period 1 Materials page), please respond to the prompt at the bottom of this entry in the form of a comment on this blog post. You’ll find the “Leave a Comment” link right under the title of this entry, next to the date. Your comment should be thoughtful and refer to at least two specific examples in the text. In order to encourage you to use this blog as a venue for discussion, here’s how grading for this assignment will work: a response which appropriately answers the discussion question will receive a maximum grade of 95%. To earn that final 5% of the grade, you must respond (thoughtfully!) to one of the comments left by your classmates. A few reminders about appropriate online interactions: as this is an academic assignment, I expect your responses to reflect all standard grammatical and mechanical practices. Remember that tone is sometimes difficult to discern in online communication, so be sure that you express yourself clearly. If you’re uncomfortable using your full name to post a comment, please just post using your first name and last initial– I’ll know who you are. Here’s your discussion prompt: Consider Hammurabi’s judgments. Do you think they would have been effective as a law code? Who were the judgments meant to protect or benefit? What sort of social distinctions can we see in Hammurabi’s law code? Did any of the laws or their implications surprise you? If so, why? This will be due at 11:59pm January, 10th, 2017. Stay safe in the ice and hopefully I'll see you Wednesday. Best, Ms. Elrick .Well, it happened.
Tomorrow Cobb County Schools will be closed due to the remaining ice on the roads. Here is your assignment for tomorrow so that we'll stay on track in AP World History. Hold on to your Morris article questions. They will be a part of your binder check that is Friday, January 13th. Review the Early Human Origins powerpoint and pay close attention to the consequences of the Neolithic Revolution. Once you have done that, complete the Civilization Chalk Talk Prep handout for our first Chalk Talk in class on Tuesday. Stay safe and off the icy roads and I'll see you in class on Tuesday.
